We love this product and can’t wait to use it in one of our projects. It aligns with our sustainability values and creative flair. If you want create some outdoor alchemy in your garden or landscape project get in touch!

It even provides the amount of CO2 saved with each project. This is truly amazing and support the planet and reduction of climate change impacts.

K-BRIQ® is a low-carbon brick developed by Scottish company Kenoteq as a more sustainable alternative to conventional fired clay bricks.

What makes it particularly interesting is what it doesn't contain: K-BRIQ® is manufactured without firing and is made using approximately 90% recycled construction and demolition waste, including materials such as crushed brick, concrete, plasterboard and other mineral waste. This significantly reduces the energy normally associated with brick production.

Unlike many experimental recycled building products, K-BRIQ® has been developed as a practical construction material, designed to be used in the same way as a conventional masonry brick. It is suitable for external applications, making it particularly relevant to landscape architecture, where durability and resistance to the British climate are essential.

Design potential

K-BRIQ® is available in a range of colours beyond the traditional red and brown brick palette. The range includes muted and contemporary tones as well as more expressive colours, creating opportunities to use brick as a strong design element rather than simply a structural material.

For landscape projects, this opens up some interesting possibilities — from feature walls and garden structures to planters, seating, outdoor kitchens and commercial terraces.

The material also offers an opportunity to introduce a visible sustainability narrative into a project. Rather than hiding recycled content behind the finished surface, the brick itself becomes part of the story: waste construction materials are transformed into a new, useful and visually distinctive product.

Why it matters

The construction industry is under increasing pressure to reduce embodied carbon and move towards more circular approaches to material use. Traditional brick manufacturing is energy intensive because bricks need to be fired at very high temperatures.

K-BRIQ® takes a different approach by avoiding the firing process and diverting waste from landfill, potentially reducing the environmental impact of masonry.

For landscape designers, materials such as K-BRIQ® offer an exciting middle ground between sustainability and design. They don't require the visual compromise that can sometimes come with recycled materials — instead, their colour, texture and material story can become an integral part of the design.

In short, K-BRIQ® demonstrates how a familiar material like brick can be rethought for a lower-carbon, more circular future — while still offering the durability and creative potential needed for contemporary landscape projects.
